They provide advocacy for abused and neglected children and support for school children who are at risk due to substance abuse within their families. At the Family Resource Center, you can see your United Way contributions at work in a variety of programs, including those that focus on income by promoting financial stability and self-sufficiency. United Way and the Community Action Organization have reached out to residents with free tax filing assistance and earned income tax credit counseling, through volunteers trained through the government's VITA program. United Way also is focused on improving the health of Delaware County residents at all stages of life from hearing screenings for newborns, to substance abuse intervention programs for youth, health, and safety education for adults, and a variety of services to help senior citizens maintain health and independence in their own homes.
