Skeels-Mathews Community Center
Skeels-Mathews Community Center focuses its programs on children, teens and older adults.With the volunteer assistance of Kent State University students, after-school tutoring is available for school-aged children, including help with homework, trips to the library and use of the Center’s computer lab. “America Reads, America Counts” tutors also work with Skeels youth. For recreation, neighborhood youth can use the Center’s playground and basketball court, as well as indoor children’s room. Teen girls meet weekly for motivational discussions, special speakers, trips and activities. A weekly nutrition class, organized with the help of the OSU extension office, is also offered.Summer programs, including a youth employment program, are held daily in conjunction with other Family & Community Services agencies.
